Author Guidelines

The Revista Argentina de Musicología will only accept for publication those submissions that comply with the following guidelines:

A recommended length of 8,000 to 10,000 words is suggested (including text boxes, footnotes, appendices, and illustrations with their captions).

Authors are asked to complete all metadata requested by the system during the article submission process.

Format

Page layout: A4; top and bottom margins 2.5 cm; left and right margins 3 cm.

Font: Times New Roman.

General spacing: 1.5 line spacing.

Main title: 14 pt, bold, centred.

First-level subheading: 12 pt, bold, left-aligned, 6 pt spacing after.

Second-level subheading: 12 pt, bold, left-aligned, 1.25 cm indent, 6 pt spacing after.

Initial heading: 11 pt, italics, right-aligned, single spacing.

Body text: 12 pt, justified, 1.25 cm indent.

Quotations of up to three lines: 12 pt, English quotation marks.

Quotations longer than three lines: 11 pt, no quotation marks, 1 cm left and right indent.

Footnotes: 10 pt, justified, 1.25 cm indent, single spacing.

Style

Avoid references in the abstract.

Place references after punctuation marks.

Names of actants/proper names: capitalize only the first letter (e.g., Facebook).

Words in other languages: italics, except for actants/proper names.

Quotations in other languages: provide the translation in the body of the text and the original version in italics in the footnote. Indicate the source.

Quotations within quotations: use single quotation marks (“La señora dijo: ‘me gustan los perros’, y se compró uno”).

Hyperlinks without underlining or colour.

Internet pages: indicate “Last accessed: d/m/y.”

To highlight words: use italics (not bold or quotation marks).

Preferably use Spanish spellings. Already established: violonchelo, dosier, folclore, solo.

Em dash (Ctrl+Alt+Num–) for text interpolation [El mar —conocido también como el océano— es de color azul].

Journals: title in italics, Arabic numeral, and, separated by a comma, “no.” [Revista Argentina de Musicología 23, no. 1].

Musical albums: title in italics and components in English quotation marks [“En casa de Mariquita” as part of Mujeres argentinas].

Use words instead of Arabic numerals [cien años, ochenta por ciento].

Names of musical ensembles: without quotation marks or italics (as they are proper names).

Images: must be numbered and accompanied by their corresponding caption.

Bibliographic references in footnotes

NOTE: For all matters not covered here or in the Submission Preparation Checklist, refer to The Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition).

Full references on first appearance and abbreviated thereafter.

For consecutive repetitions use “Ibid.”

Figures, examples, and tables

Images that are not exempt from copyright must have the corresponding permissions. The author is responsible for obtaining authorization. Otherwise, it is suggested to transcribe musical excerpts of up to eight measures and submit them as image files (individually, in .tif, .tiff, or .png formats).

Each example/figure/table must be numbered and referenced in the body of the text.
Captions: 10 pt, centred, 6 pt spacing after, single spacing, with labels in bold [Fig. nº 1, Ejemplo nº 1, Tabla nº 1].

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • Text format: written in an editable text file in OpenOffice (.odt), Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or RTF format. PDF texts will NOT be received.
  • Image file format: .tif, .tiff, .png or, failing that, .jpg with a minimum size of 1MB and maximum of 5MB. The author is responsible for having the rights for its reproduction. The source or author of the images must be appropriately indicated.
  • Revista Argentina de Musicología suggests registering as an author in ORCiD. This free code system uniquely identifies researchers and academics, avoiding confusion between people with similar names and ensuring that future citations are correctly assigned to your article (h-index). Registration is done at https://orcid.org/signin and a complete URL is generated with your profile that must accompany your biography (for example: http://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097).

Review: Double-blind peer review
Body length: 8,000 to 10,000 words (including footnotes and epigraphs)

Keywords: Up to 5 words
Definition: This section is coordinated by a specialist invited by the Editorial Team, an expert in the thematic area proposed for each issue. The coordinator will be responsible for soliciting or selecting the submitted articles, as well as writing an introductory text for the section. Articles in this section adhere to the journal's guidelines for submitted articles and undergo a double-blind peer review process. They must include a title, abstract, keywords, and bibliographic references as indicated in the Submitted Articles section.

Free Papers

Review: Double-blind peer review
Body length: 8,000 to 10,000 words (including footnotes and epigraphs)
Title length: Up to 12 words
Abstract length: 150 to 200 words
Keywords: Up to 5 words
Definition: This section includes articles on diverse topics. Submitted articles present original research developed and evaluated according to the criteria of the disciplinary musicological approach from which the articles are constructed. The text undergoes double-blind peer review. The RAM is interested in articles that produce new knowledge and are written in a way that is accessible to an informed audience. Articles must be submitted in Spanish. The length should be between 8,000 and 10,000 words, with flexibility for specific cases during the second review. Submissions must include a title (in Spanish and English), an abstract of 150 to 200 words in both Spanish and English, and up to five keywords in both Spanish and English (please avoid using keywords already present in the title). A minimum of ten bibliographic references must also be included. Footnotes should be used to cite references within the text. The citation style should follow the guidelines in The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition.

Book review

Review: No peer review. However, its relevance is always considered by the editorial team.
Body length: 1,000 to 3,000 words
Abstract: Not included
Keywords: Not included
Definition: This section is dedicated to the publication of reviews of books or sound/audiovisual productions—published in any region and language—of interest to any branch of musicological studies (historical, ethnographic, popular music, organology, iconography, aesthetics, analysis, and music theory). Unless the author requests it, reviews do not include a title. Reviews must be written in Spanish. Complete details of the reviewed publication must be provided: author, title, place of publication, publisher, year, number of pages, format, ISBN or ISSN (as applicable), and an image of the publication's cover must be included. The text length should range from 1,000 to 3,000 words. All bibliographic references must be included in the body of the text.
