Policy about the use of artificial intelligence

The Argentine Journal of Musicology (RAM); adheres to the Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence for Scientific Journals developed by the National University of La Plata, in line with the criteria for the use and application of artificial intelligence (AI) proposed by the Heredia Declaration, COPE, WAME, and the Decalogue of the Argentine Center for Scientific and Technical Information (CAICYT-CONICET).

The guiding principle of these policies, which the journal shares and promotes, is that AI does not replace scientific reasoning, critical analysis, or decision-making. Therefore, the ethical and legal responsibility for content published in the Argentine Journal of Musicology (RAM) that has been generated using AI rests with the authors. 

In all cases, the journal will prioritize its ethics and plagiarism policies, and the policy regarding the use of AI is subject to compliance with the former.

Authorship: AI systems lack ethical and legal responsibility, as well as the ability to be held accountable for published content. Therefore, authorship can only be attributed to human beings.

Transparency: AI systems are tools that can be used in the creation, technical analysis, or processing of scientific content. Therefore, authors must disclose which AI systems they used, for what purpose, with what parameters, and what type of oversight was conducted.

Scientific integrity: AI systems can generate erroneous data or unfounded claims because they are unable to distinguish between verified and unverified content. Therefore, all information generated by AI systems must be reviewed and/or cross-checked against reliable scientific literature.

Bias Control: AI systems may replicate social, cultural, or disciplinary biases present in their training data. Therefore, users must evaluate all information generated by these tools and avoid reproducing potential biases.

Citation: AI systems do not constitute primary sources of information. Therefore, they should not be cited as references either in the text or in the reference list. Likewise, authors are asked to verify any bibliography suggested by AI.

The Argentine Journal of Musicology (RAM) adopted this policy in August 2026 and has since applied it throughout the various stages of the editorial process (preliminary review, peer review, and production of the final version).
